Loretta Mays is the Director of Human Resources at People Incorporated of Virginia. She is a highly experienced Human Resources professional with two decades of experience in government and nonprofit settings.
Since joining the agency in 2021, Mays has transformed the human resources department with a focus on serving agency employees. She led the transition to paperless personnel records and reformed recruitment with the creation of the online Career Center. Mays supervises a staff of two while serving nearly 300 employees across Virginia and Tennessee.
Prior to joining the agency, Mays worked as the Town Manager for the Town of Coeburn, where she managed all departments and functions of a small town. She also worked as the District Manager for Virginia DMV, managing the day-to-day operations of 14 DMV Customer Services Centers, supervising 150+ employees.
Mays is a graduate of the University of Virginia’s College at Wise with a bachelor’s degree in business and public administration, and a master’s certificate in local government management from Virginia Tech. She lives in southwest Virginia and spends her spare time with her children, grandchildren, and loyal Shih Tzu.
